This is a great toy to last for many months! It can first be offered around 4 months as a toy to aid in hand development and delightful shaking. The jingling of the bell, familiar to the child from using the bell rattle, is now louder and more pronounced, encouraging the child to want to grasp the cylinder to produce this slightly different sound. Later on, when the child is creeping rapidly or crawling, the bell cylinder can be offered as an enticement to be on the move. The infant's motor control and hand-eye coordination will develop as he/she moves to reach the bell cylinder. The infant will feel great self-confidence when he/she reaches it and is able to shake it independently.
The bell cylinder is lightly stained with olive oil so the infant can safely and fully explore with this material. It can also be ordered without a stain (non-oiled) if requested.
All of our materials are recommended by the AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) Assistants to Infancy and come with product description cards, describing purpose and usage.

My baby (5 months) loves this bell rattle. The bards make it easy to grasp and shake.

We ordered this for our 4 month old for Valentines Day. He"s completely in love with it. We place it on the middle of his stomach and he immediately reaches for it with both hands and brings it to his face. He is starting to teethe on it, and the sanding is so perfect that there are no rough spots. I want to buy this for all newborns!
Multi-purpose, wonderful toy!

We purchased the bell cylinder along with two other toys from "Beginning Montessori." This was our favorite of the three. Our son loves passing this from hand to hand, and of course he enjoys chewing on the wood.
My love for this toy, however, is because it was the first thing that got our son laughing out loud. We would roll it towards him and when it would contact his body, he would explode with laughter.
Developed right before our eyes!!! Highly recommend the bell cylinder!
