The interlocking discs are to be offered around 2-3 months while the infant still has the grasping reflex. Use of the discs during this time will help the infant to develop voluntary grasping. The lightweight wood will allow the infant to swing the toy around, attracting his eyes and aiding in eye development. The unique design of the material will help the child to grasp the discs from either side to cross the midline of their body and aid in wrist development. This special design also gives the interlocking discs the most unusual rotation when given a small nudge, inviting the infant to roll or creep towards after it. The infant will love the feel of the smoothly sanded wooden discs in his hands and on his gums as he uses it as a wooden teether.
The interlocking discs are made with lightweight wood and nontoxic glue. It is lightly stained with olive oil so the infant can safely and fully explore with this material. It can also be ordered without a stain (non-oiled) if requested.
All of our materials are recommended by the AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) Assistants to Infancy and come with product description cards, describing purpose and usage.
